For Black women entrepreneurs, the journey to business leadership is often marked by overcoming more than just market competition—they must confront systemic barriers rooted in racism, sexism, and economic disparity. While these barriers are significant, they are not insurmountable. At Synergy4WBO, we believe that Black women deserve more than just a seat at the table—they deserve the opportunity to build their own tables. By pairing emerging entrepreneurs with seasoned mentors, Synergy4WBO is dismantling the traditional structures of business leadership and providing Black women with the tools they need to thrive in a world that hasn’t always been built for them.

The Financial Divide: Why Black Women Struggle to Secure Funding
One of the most significant barriers Black women face is access to capital. Despite being one of the most entrepreneurial groups in the country, Black women business owners are still disproportionately underfunded. According to a Harvard Business Review study, only 0.6% of venture capital funding goes to Black women-led startups.
This lack of funding is not due to a lack of innovative ideas or entrepreneurial drive—it’s the result of entrenched biases in the investment world. Venture capitalists, often white and male, are less likely to invest in Black women-owned businesses, not because the business models are flawed, but because they do not fit the typical mold of what a “successful entrepreneur” looks like.
Synergy4WBO is changing this narrative by not only providing mentorship but also giving Black women access to networks and resources that have historically been closed off to them. Our mentors, successful Black women entrepreneurs, offer more than just advice—they provide connections to investors and teach strategies for navigating the biases of the financial world.

Combatting Stereotypes: Redefining the Image of Business Leadership
Business leadership has long been synonymous with images of white, male executives in tailored suits. This limited representation has excluded Black women from the conversation, not only in boardrooms but also in media and public perceptions of success.
Through Synergy4WBO’s mentorship program, we are working to challenge these stereotypes and amplify the voices of Black women leaders. Our mentors have faced similar struggles and have built successful businesses by redefining what leadership looks like. They teach mentees to own their unique leadership styles, which often include empathy, resilience, and community-centered approaches. These qualities, which are sometimes overlooked in traditional leadership frameworks, are in fact essential for leading in today’s rapidly changing world.
